Russian Federation and Ukraine to discuss possibility of operation of Odessa-Brody Oil Pipeline in direct mode
Russia and Ukraine will discuss possibility of operation of the Odessa-Brody Oil Pipeline in the direct mode. This information was released by the Press-Department of the Ministry of Industrial Energy of the Russian Federation after the meeting of the representatives of both countries on Monday. “The representatives of the Ukrainian delegation suggested to discuss possibilities of operation of the Odessa-Brody Oil Pipeline by the Russian oil companies in the direct mode and not in the reverse mode. A decision was reached to create a special working group for discussion of these suggestions. The representatives of the companies and the State authorities of both countries will constitute this working group. The Russian delegation will be headed by the Head of the Federal Agency on Energetics Sergey Oganesyan”,- reads the statement. Speaking at the meeting about operation of the oil pipeline in the reverse mode the representative of TNK-BP noted that the interest of the Russian oil companies to oil transportation using this route should be maintained by the corresponding tariff policy. “It is known that the harbour dues of the Yuzhniy Sea Port exceed the harbour dues of the Odessa Sea Port by a factor of two. We as well intended to discuss a question of deepening of the Yuzhniy Sea Port so that the oil tankers not only with tonnage 80 tons but as well with 100 tons could call at the port”, - he said. The representative of the Ukrainian delegation in his turn underlined that as of September 1 a decree will be valid which will flatten out all harbour dues at the Yuzhniy Sea Port. Replying to the suggestion of the Ukrainian side about guarantees of increasing of oil transportation through the Odessa-Brody Oil Pipeline Viktor Khristenko said: “There will not be more oil in 2006 as compared with this year. In this year the oil companies have increased the oil extraction by 2% and the next year will not differ”.
