Oil industry operators prefer to avoid sharp increase of prices

December 31, 2004, Friday

Oil industry operators are not interested in sharp increase of prices. Absence of pressure on the part of the government still does not lead to sharp escalation of prices.

For the time being, the market is undergoing structural changes. The most optimistic news of the last week was statement of oil producers that they did not intend to initiate increase of the prices for oil products. As the president of “TNK-BP Ukraine” LLC Alexander Gorodetsky stated, today one could speak about the trend towards stable price in the following months — December and January. According to his words, the talk is about stabilization on the same level as today’s retail market of Ukraine has. “At the moment, oil industry in not a source of risk for increase of prices for oil products. Price changes could appear only as a result of destabilization of financial system of the country. However, negative trends in the financial sector will reflect also on other producers. Business has already faced the consequences of deterioration of the credit situation. At the moment, all problems can be solved and oil producers do not see reasons for destabilization of the market,” says Gorodetsky. At the same time, the President of Ukraine appreciated efforts of “TNK-BP Ukraine” and Alexander Gorodetsky personally in supporting stability on the oil products market. As it became known this week, Alexander Gorodetsky was awarded Order “For Merits” of the 3rd Degree.
